Does your dog or cat have allergies? I was unaware of how common environmental allergies are in dogs and cats these days.
My family has been blessed with not one, but two beautiful Weimaraner dogs. Duke was our old boy for just shy of 16 years. He was an amazing person…err dog…whose personality touched everyone he met. Our vet actually called Duke “The Legend”. They had never cared for a Weimaraner this old. Duke gave us many, many memories that I will be sharing with you at a later date.
Soon after Duke’s passing in August 2014, we adopted our newest Weimaraner puppy and named him Luke Skywalker Rumble. Yes. That is his name, thanks to my son Jackson. Luke is currently 10 months old and weighs 80 lbs. Looks like we are going to have a BIG boy! He is a typical Weimaraner with lots of personality, a loving spirit and intense running speed. However, at 6 months old, Luke was diagnosed with a heart defect, aortic stenosis, which is a thin aorta valve. Sadly, there is no fix for his heart condition, though I firmly believe in the power of prayer and that our Heavenly Father can heal him 🙂 Our vet tells us that with this heart condition, some dogs live medium-length lives, others shorter lives. So, we will love Luke every day that we have him. I will continue to pray over him every night that God will heal his sweet heart!
In addition to his heart diagnosis, Luke was tested for allergies since he was having some major reactions to his environment and/or food. Ugh! Blood test results found he is allergic to: grass (he’s a bird hunter), trees, cats (we have two) and mites (dust and in dog food).
Sooooo, what were we to do? Luke was consistently on an antihistamine and an antibiotic for the infection (not good for his heart). I began thinking about how my family controls our seasonal allergies naturally. I researched and found 100s of testimonials of pet owners managing or eliminating their pets’ allergies with natural supplements! Of course, I only trust Shaklee and found these testimonials in our files.
I have given Luke Shaklee Alfalfa every morning in his prescription food (1 tab per 10 lbs. = 8 for Luke since his 80 lbs.) plus one Optiflora probiotic pearl. I bathe him every week in Basic H. The difference is astounding! I took pictures, so I hope they don’t gross you out. His major itching and redness was around his belly and groin area. No more pink or red ears, nose, mouth or eyes! I am so, so blessed to have found Shaklee for not only my family, but also for my beloved fur babies.
Update: We are now on week 4 of the Shaklee Alfalfa, Optiflora and Basic H2 regimen. Luke’s skin, eyes, ears and nose look perfect. No signs of redness or itching. Our vet was VERY pleased with his results, and they prefer that we use natural products vs. medications due to his heart issue. I will be meeting with the doctors soon to talk further about how this regimen can help other dogs in their practice. I even found testimonials from cat owners who also use this regimen. I just started giving Luke Omega-3s to help keep his heart as healthy as possible. I used Shaklee OmegaGuard for this.
If Dr. Shaklee were alive today, I would hug him tightly for developing his wonderful products that have completely turned around my family’s health and the health of our precious pets.
Additional note: I had given Shaklee Alfalfa to our first Weimaraner, Duke, when he was 14 years old. My vet agrees that the alfalfa really helped to extend his life because he was able to get up and move around easier when taking Alfalfa (much less stiffness, soreness and inflammation in his joints).
